About the Programme


We are looking for 5th or 6th class in primary schools to participate and we would like your school to be part of it!

‘The Sensor Inspector is a citizen science programme that empowers five primary schools in the Dublin City area (5-6th class) to monitor local air pollution and traffic, with a view to promoting active travel.

The programme includes a four-part workshop series in schools. They had hands-on air quality and traffic monitoring sensors, with those they will identify key environmental problems, and developed creative solutions to address these challenges.

This primary school workshops series is delivered by the Academy of the Near Future (ANF) team in collaboration to Dublin City Council Active Travel team, focusing on Children’s Movement Through the City project. ANF is a smart cities education programme in partnership between the Smart Cities Unit in Dublin City Council and CONNECT Research Centre for Future Networks at Trinity College Dublin.



Programme Highlights

  • It is a FREE STEM workshop series

  • 4 sessions of 90 min each

  • We will install a pollution and a traffic sensor in your school

  • We deliver all the workshops in your classroom

  • Delivery period September 2025-April 2026

  • Some students will be presenting their project in the Mansion House in May 2026

  • All workshops are facilitated by a trained, Garda vetted staff

    Considerations:

  • For the traffic sensor installation we just need a window in the school with a clear view of the street, and a plug nearby.

  • Students will use air quality and traffic monitoring sensors, identify key environmental problems, and develop creative solutions to address these challenges.

  • Students will help provide expert insights based on their local knowledge, gaining hands-on experience in monitoring and assessing data obtained in their area.

  • Showcase at the Mansion House


  • Students:

    • will learn about active travel, smart cities, AI, data and citizen science

    • use a air quality and traffic monitoring sensors,

    • identified key environmental problems,

    • developed creative solutions to address these challenges,

    • help providing expert insights based on their local knowledge,

    • gain hands-on experience in monitoring and assessing data obtained in their area,
