Treoraigh do Thodhchaí - déanta!

We're thrilled to have delivered ‘Treoraigh do Thodhchaí’, the Irish-language version of the Design Your Future City programme in Spiddal last week in partnership withGael Linn’s Gaelbhratach team andTrinity College Dublin School of Education. This is the first time the initiative has been delivered in the Irish language, with the support of the ESD to 2030 Fund.

Bhain muid an-sult as an gclár “Threoraigh do Thodhchaí” a chur ar fáil trí Ghaeilge an tseachtain seo caite in Spidéal, i gcomhpháirt le foireann Gaelbhratach, Gael Linn agus Scoil an Oideachais, Colaiste na Trionóide.

This exciting week-long Irish-language educational programme engaged 18 students aged 15-17 in hands-on workshops that explored environmental challenges through the lens of Irish language and culture. Throughout the week, students examined the role of technology and innovation in addressing climate challenges, and gained valuable insights into how traditional knowledge and modern advancements can work together to create a sustainable future. By fostering leadership, creativity, and problem-solving skills, the programme empowered the next generation to harness sustainability and technology to build a better future.

Bhí sé mar aidhm ag an tionscnamh seo tacú le forbairt scileanna agus cruthaitheacht STEM.
Is ceardlanna praiticiúla a bhí i gceist sa togra seachtaine seo le daoine óga idir 15-17 mbliana d’aois, tugadh aghaidh ar dhúshláin chomhshaoil agus fiosraíodh an tslí gur féidir leis an nGaeilge agus le traidisiúin na Gaeilge a bheith mar ábhar inspioráide le haghaidh réitigh cruthaitheacha, inbhuanaithe agus teicneolaíochta don todhchaí. Chothaigh an clár ceannaireacht, cruthaitheacht, agus scileanna réitithe fadhbanna, agus chuir sé ar chumas an chéad ghlúin eile leas a bhaint as inbhuanaitheacht agus teicneolaíocht chun todhchaí níos fearr a thógáil.

Students participated from across the country, including Galway City, Cois Farraige, Spiddal, Inis Meáin Island, Dublin, Carlow and Rathcarran. At the end of the week, students presented their ideas for a sustainable future to guests from Trinity College Dublin, Udaras na Gaeltachta, Galway County Council, University of Galway, TG4 and members of local sustainability initiatives. One student idea focused on a ‘digital fáinne’ to promote speaking opportunities in Irish, others looked at using technology to promote health and wellbeing in young people.

Bhí mic léinn ann ó gach cearn den tír, ina measc Cathair na Gaillimhe, Cois Farraige, An Spidéal, Oileán Inis Meáin, Baile Átha Cliath, Ceatharlach agus Ráth Chairn. Ag deireadh na seachtaine, chuir mic léinn a gcuid smaointe don todhchaí i láthair d’aíonna ó Choláiste na Tríonóide, Baile Átha Cliath, Údarás na Gaeltachta, Comhairle Chontae na Gaillimhe, Ollscoil na Gaillimhe agus TG4. Dhírigh smaoineamh dalta amháin ar ‘fháinne digiteach’ chun deiseanna labhartha Gaeilge a chur chun cinn, d’fhéach cuid eile ar úsáid na teicneolaíochta chun sláinte agus folláine a chur chun cinn.

It was amazing to see the energy, creativity and fun coming from the students and the support of the community in An Spidéal, Co. na Gaillimhe.

Is iontach fuinnimh, cruthaíocht agus spraoi na scoláirí. Táimid buíoch don tacaíocht ón bpobal áitiúil i Spidéal, Co. na Gaillimhe freisin.
