Building Leaders, Crafting Communities in schools

What is Building Leaders, Crafting Communities?

‘Building Leaders, Crafting Communities’ is a school-based mentoring programme between Transition Year students and 5th/6th class groups. It aims to increase students’ understanding and awareness of smart and sustainable cities using Minecraft Education Edition. The programme pairs interactive workshops with game-based learning to empower students with the skills and knowledge needed to build their vision for a sustainable Dublin. Students will present their insights at the end of the year, providing a platform for young people to voice their opinion to Dublin City Council and leaders in STEM.

Goals of the Programme

  1. Increase students' understanding and awareness of smart and sustainable cities

  2. Foster leadership and mentoring skills in Transition Year students

  3. Provide a platform for young people to voice their insights into what a sustainable future for Dublin might look like while feeding these insights back to Dublin City Council

  4. Build new connections for upper primary and secondary school students within a positive learning environment and provide role models for transitioning 6th class pupils
